Since it’s been quite a while, I thought I’d share with you some sites that I visited last week. Some interesting, some funny, some relevant and some not. Been a bit busy of late, but I’m hoping to get back on the blog-horse soon… stay tuned!

D-Department.jp 26.05.09

This whole horizontal block/grid layouts are all the craze right now (r.fm, rexcreative and mike young to name but a few), but what’s troubled me is the big gaps that they can leave. Obviously there had to be a solution, and here it is! Visit D-Department and re-size your browser to appreciate the awesomness. As far as I can tell, it’s a jQuery plugin, but I’ve not had a chance to delve deeper – anyone give me an idea of what’s going on behind the scenes here? -
NYC 26.05.09

Holy crap! This is amazing, beautiful… god damn brilliant – a flash aerial view of New York!! The trippy music makes me feel like I’ve died or something. Go! Go there now! -

YCN Library 07.05.09

I recently learned that the YCN Studio (Shoreditch) have opened their doors to a new lending library. So I headed on over there at lunchtime to check it out/sign up. Not surprisingly, it’s a beautiful space with some really nice books to borrow, one-off posters and other prints to buy. I spent a while in there browsing around before ending up standing outside their offices for 20 minutes like a crazy person (it’s OK, I was on a call… can’t seem to master speaking and walking at the same time)! But it’s yet another reason to love Shoretich! If you get a chance you should definitely go check it out! Whilst you’re at it – you should probably also check out my newest RSS addition, SiteInspire (a Daniel Howells project).

Effing Hail 29.04.09

Infographics + techno music + annoyingly addictive game = BEST THING EVER! -
Honda & Vimeo 27.04.09

You’re probably already aware of the newest Honda ‘Let it Shine’ ad spot (you know, the one with the cars and headlights) – but I was immensely impressed today when I saw Honda’s takeover of Vimeo (Wieden+Kennedy, of course). Now that’s how you tell your brands’ story using existing online platforms! -
Vimeo Redesign 25.04.09

Last week Vimeo changed their homepage (I only just noticed, getting slack!) – and I gotta say that it’s beautiful! I especially like the subtle background animation, which reminds me a little of Volll. The site is a little more serious – but still has the personality that I love about Vimeo. Click the image to see the old homepage vs. the new one (I very randomly had the old homepage saved locally). -
Nikola Mircic 24.04.09

Check out the portfolio of interface designer Nikola Mircic (www.nikolamircic.com). I’m seeing more and more sites with this type of layout, but Nikola has got it spot on! Some great work here too! -
Studiokxx 23.04.09
The work produced by Studio K is beautiful – truly inspiring. www.studiokxx.com

jQuery Style 23.04.09

Martin pointed me towards jQuery Style this morning – love it!
