Dilbert on User Experience 28.05.09

I had to laugh at the accuracy of some of these Dilbert cartoons. Brilliant. -
Twitter Tone 27.05.09

Although not a huge fan of the Twitter website/interface, I do like their tone of voice – check out the (above) options you get when blocking someone. Tone of voice is very important on websites, an often overlooked element of the overall ‘design’ of a site. -
D-Department.jp Update 27.05.09
In response to my own post yesterday about fluid layouts, I found this tutorial by SohTanaka which demonstrates the same principles as in D-Department, using jQuery. I guess the animation would just be another plugin.

D-Department.jp 26.05.09

This whole horizontal block/grid layouts are all the craze right now (r.fm, rexcreative and mike young to name but a few), but what’s troubled me is the big gaps that they can leave. Obviously there had to be a solution, and here it is! Visit D-Department and re-size your browser to appreciate the awesomness. As far as I can tell, it’s a jQuery plugin, but I’ve not had a chance to delve deeper – anyone give me an idea of what’s going on behind the scenes here? -
NYC 26.05.09

Holy crap! This is amazing, beautiful… god damn brilliant – a flash aerial view of New York!! The trippy music makes me feel like I’ve died or something. Go! Go there now! -
jQuery Twitter Plugin 22.05.09

Not surprisingly, there’s now a jQuery plugin to display Twitter feeds. Looks useful and easy to impliment. Cheers Sara! -
Design Exploration 21.05.09
Following my post last week about the evolution of a website, I’ve become quite obsessed with this aspect of web design. Today I came across the evolution of a tag-based navigation, designed by Jason Zimdars (of 37Signals). Proves a very interesting read! It’s good to see designers devoting a considerable amount of time and energy into making something so “simple”. Kudos!

Meat Cards 19.05.09
Hmm, I don’t want this person to have my mobile number… HOMF HOMF HOMF Here you go!
I haven’t designed a business card in a few months now, but rest assured the next job that comes through will get a meat card!

Car or Coach? 19.05.09
Very nice use of ambient advertising mixed with web technologies to create a hugely successful campaign!

Konami Code 15.05.09

The Konami Code is a Japanese gaming cheat that consists of you pressing, in sequence up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a on your keypad. Now log into FaceBook, do the code, press enter, then see what happens when you click on something (like text, or the white background). I love hidden stuff like this! Check out this site, which lists all the other sites that have this ‘cheat’ (like Google, FaceBook etc) -
Paper Can’t Beat Rock! 14.05.09
I understand how scissors can beat paper, and I get how a rock can beat scissors, but there’s no fucking way paper can beat rock. Is paper supposed to magically wrap around rock and leave it immobile?…

Booty Train 14.05.09
I absolutely love the new adverts from Virgin – this one especially made me smile. As far as I can tell, they’re the creation of MCBD (I was bizarrely at their offices on Monday) and Partizan.
