Attack of the Blog! 26.11.08

Watch out… it’s the attack of the BLOB BLOG! Three times in the past 7 days, I’ve noticed the power of blogs – and how they can play both advantageous and negative roles in the growth of your online presence. Read more -
Freak Out! 25.11.08

Made me laugh – so appropriate! Sorry Martin, couldn’t resist! -
Press OK… OK! 21.11.08
I’ve just had Windows XP installed on my work Mac (using VMware Fusion) – which is proving to be awesome for checking out designs/sites through the horrifying world of a PC browser (geez PC… ever think about looking into anti-aliasing!?). However, on launching Internet Explorer 6, I’m presented with this…

Shoreditch Invasion! 21.11.08

Noticed this on my way to the gym today on Curtain Road. Nicki (who’s photo that is) and a few others noticed it too… pretty hard to miss! No idea what it’s about – but I for one welcome our new insect octopus overlords!

Launch! 18.11.08

Today, having worked tirelessly on some mad IE bugs… I launched a webapp I designed and built myself. Also, check out the html email here. -
Just be able to… 17.11.08
I was reading this article by ‘SuperAwesome’, who share my opinion that web designers should know how to code, and came across one of their comment responses – which sums it all up for me.
The point is not to do it all yourself, but just to be able to. Then you can provide an excellent service, and achieve excellent results.

Quark is back. Again. 16.11.08
Queue the sad music…
Back in the day, Quark and I were happy together – then suddenly, out of the blue, something new came into my life – something flashy and exciting… they called it InDesign. Read more -
Linkage 13.11.08
Due to extreme business recently, I’ve been rubbish updating the blog. So I thought I’d share some quick links with you…

Usability Post (link)
A new blog I’ve found. Some really useful insights into the importance of usability.
News Pond (link)
Do I like the design? I can’t work it out… but hat’s off to whoever coded this badboy – attention to detail! Quite clearly (over)designed in Fireworks though.
Type Tee’s (link)
A Threadless spin-off, but very clean and clear with some beautiful coding. Worth a visit – tee’s aren’t bad either!
Kropper (link)
This would have been useful for an application we’re building for Duchy – it’s a JavaScript image cropping script. Looks very cool, although I’ve not tried it yet.
Sprint (link)
No idea what this is all about – but it’s very nicely designed and executed. -
Defender of the Favicon 13.11.08

This is the most insane thing I’ve seen today… Defender of the Favicon.I’ve mentioned favicons before (least interesting topic ever) – but nothing comes close to this. A 16×16 javascript game that pretty much only works in Firefox. Useless, but very very cool. Via Cookie

Question Everything 12.11.08
A conflict of interest recently provoked me to question:
Should we do something simply because we can?
And I think this is an extremely valid question you should ask yourself when you design anything. I guess that links, in some way, to the BBC’s Web Principles which I discussed back in June – and makes me wonder If we don’t question everything – then how can we ever expect to be different?

Dear Adobe… 04.11.08

…WHY would I want to have an annotation pop up every time I press the N key?!At least 10 times a day, every day, I end up with an annotation with a random letter on it (like when I reach, with one of my monkey-fingers, for the ‘M’ key… and miss). It’s fucking irritating – sort it out!
