A while back I mentioned FaceBox as a really convenient, unobtrusive popup script. The very same that Facebook use (see example) throughout their site. Although it’s very easy to use and customise… it does require the jQuery library.
Although having something dependant on the jQuery library may be appropriate for some (i.e. if you’re already using jQuery) - it’s not very useful if you’re already using the Prototype library… for example.
That’s the conundrum I was in when building my most recent webapp - as the site uses the Prototype effects library (and loading the jQuery library simultaneously is not only bad practice, it renders Prototype useless).
Luckily, after a little digging, I came across this re-write by Scott Davis. Beautifully coded, simple, and runs off the Prototype library. Just what I was looking for - thanks Scott, great work!
