I’ve been working on re-designing my portfolio, as the work on my current one (visit) is a bit out of date. These days I mainly focus on digital projects - so the ‘new’ site needs to reflect that both in content and in style.
For whatever reason, I decided to go for a re-design of my portfolio. But as the time to re-launch draws nearer, I’m finding it harder and harder to let go of the existing site. So I need your help! I’ve lined up both designs below (click the images for larger versions) for comparison.
Which design do you prefer?
1. Still receives over 2000 visits a month
2. Has been featured on numerous showcase sites
3. Shows a broad cross-section of work (i.e. print etc), which the new one won’t
Benefits of the new site
1. Feels a bit more personal and appropriate, is clean and simple to navigate
2. Uses best practices, W3C compliant, AJAX… all the things you’d expect from a digital portfolio
3. Focuses on the content (images are larger and more engaging) and less so on the descriptions
It’s hard for me to change something that’s proven to work (reflected in response, visits and awards), but I guess that’s the nature of the net… move on, or be forgotten!
