Outsourcing? Think again! By Buzz

I think that the more technical outsourcing an agency does, the more their service fails.  And eventually they’ll end up losing out for it.

A quote from developer, David Walsh. This is something I’m seeing more and more recently - and it’s causing some real big issues. If outsourcing development work (usually back-end) to India is cheaper, it’s probably because the service and end product you receive is far far worse.

For example, tap in “Indian web development” in Google, and the top results show portfolios of companies that still use tables to develop their sites! We started phasing out tables back in 2001, when CSS became standard. Still, there’s no way to guarantee quality (another issue for another day) but judging a portfolio is a good place to start.

So if you’re going to outsource your development work because of costing issues, try a small local agency or individual instead (like Stu, Dave or Yong). Individuals and small set-ups usually have a far better service/output records than their Indian/Brazilian/South African counterparts - and can be just as cost effective!

I’ve seen large, reputable agencies and clients choose cost over quality too many times - and more often than not, it’s just ended badly.
