Photoshop vs Fireworks By Buzz

I’ve mentioned before that I mainly use Photoshop to design my websites – but increasingly I’m told that Fireworks is the tool of choice. Namely by the Rissington crew – who’ve been rattling on for weeks about it’s superior abilities.

So I gave in, and bought Fireworks CS3… but on opening the program I discovered that the interface looked like absolute crap. Hard to navigate, weird 90’s-esque colours and pixel icons. Not what I’ve come to expect from my years of using Photoshop! Although saying that, Fireworks has a whole host of solutions that are far superior to Photoshop – rounded corners, type rendering (which I’ve sorted), gradients and linking – to name but a few. But still…. that interface!!

Then this happened earlier on this week:

Well what d’ya know – Fireworks got a facelift! It’s only in Beta at the moment, and on a 48hour trial period, but definitely worth checking out. There’s also a beta of Dreamweaver CS4 – which has a few nice features like listing all files associated with an open document (CSS, Javascript etc).

So there you go, no more excuses! When CS4 comes to retail, I’ll be right on it. Until then, I just haven’t got the time to learn a new program that’s going to change in the next 6 months anyway. Visit Adobe Labs here.
